OUR CURRICULUM

The Senior School curriculum at The Coast Academy offers a breadth and balance to provide challenges and opportunities for students from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. This prepares them for the finest national and international universities.

We offer Edexcel International GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) at the end of Year 11 and ‘A’ levels built on AS levels at the end of Year 12 and A2 levels at the end of year 13.

International GCSE

Students at Coast Academy are prepared for a wide range of subjects. Mathematics, English Language and Information Technology are compulsory. Students then choose any additional six subjects from the following:- English Literature, French, Kiswahili, Biology, Physics, Geography, History, Art & Design, Accounts, Economics and Chemistry.

‘A’ LEVEL GCE

Students in Lower Form VI generally take four subjects to AS level chosen from: English Literature, French, Mathematics, (Pure Maths and/or Statistics), Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Art & Design, Economics, Business Studies, Accounts and Computing. Three subjects will then be carried on to the full A-level stage in Upper Form VI. The ‘A’ level GCE has strong international credibility as a university entrance examination and Coast Academy graduates can always be found on degree courses at many of the leading universities in U.K., India, U.S.A. and Australia.

LOWER SECONDARY – (YEAR 7 – YEAR 9)

The Coast Academy Lower Secondary covers the time of adolescence, which marks the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood.

Lower Secondary bridges the gap between the Primary and Upper Secondary, taking students from a controlled, relatively peaceful rhythm to an apparently frenetic pace, controlled and focused by examinations and the need to enter the appropriate university.

In terms of the curriculum and pedagogically, the programme is delivered through Skills-based learning. Lessons are student-centred and experiential, and students learn through discovery and participative activities, but with a greater emphasis on the Content and Topic areas. The following subjects are offered: English, Languages (Kiswahili and French), Humanities, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts (Art and Design, Drama, Music and Information Communication Technology {ICT}), Physical Education, and, Personal Social and Health Education {PSHE}
