    1. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir

 

The governor-elect for Mombasa County, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir sat for his KCPE exams in 1988 at the Coast Academy. He was a student who would not quit on a task until he made sure he had successfully completed it. We wish him all the best as the second governor of Mombasa.

 

    2. Maisam Fazel

Dr. Maisam is a University of Cambridge–qualified consultant and specialist registered surgeon, in both cosmetic and breast cancer surgery with more than 21 years of experience. Dr. Maisam, the founder of Refresh Cosmetic Surgery, in the UK is also a pioneer in male breast surgery (gynecomastia surgery) and is highly recommended in his mummy makeovers.

 

    3. Fareen Samji

Fareen, who is also known as “Far”, is the 5 time Canadian Women’s long drive champion and former golf touring professional. She moved to Canada to further her education at McMaster University and graduated with degrees in Psychology and Kinesiology. In 2017, Fareen published her book, Smashing the Grass Ceiling which aims to empower, motivate and inspire professional women.

 

    4. Aanand Acharya

Dr. Aanand Acharya is a Master’s degree graduate in Medicine from the University Of Cambridge (UK), a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Perth, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. He is accredited in Otolaryngology with both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  Aanand also provides Outreach ENT services to rural and remote parts of West Australia and is the lead clinician and coordinator of the Telethon Speech & Hearing Pilbara Ear Bus Program.

 

   5. Thomas N O Achia

 

Professor Thomas Achia is a professor of Mathematics at the University of Nairobi. And also a biostatistician at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Professor Achia graduated from the University of the Western Cape. He has previously worked at the University of the Witwatersrand as a senior lecturer in Epidemiology and Biostatics, specializing in Spatial and spatiotemporal modeling of diseases and public health issues He has written a number of research publications such as Identification of determinants of infant mortality in Rwanda using a shared frailty model, which was published by the European Journal of Scientific Research.

3 Reasons Spending Quality Time With Your Children Is Important

Once again, the half-term break is here with us.

For students, it is usually a time to relax, meet up with their friends, catch up on their favourite shows, go for their favourite recreational activities and lastly, binge eating junk food. On the other hand, most parents find half-term to be unnecessary in terms of time and money because of the fear of truancy.

But the real question is how do you spend quality time with your children?

Half term is meant to be a time for bonding, reflection and relaxation for families.

However, most parents dread half-term breaks as it means them having to dig deeper into their pockets to finance the activities for the short break. For other parents, their main concern is the amount of unsupervised time that their children get during the half-term breaks, considering most parents are either full-time employees or have their own businesses to run, which translates to not enough time to keep an eye on the activities of their children.

Below is why you should spend more time with your child not just during half term, but all year round.

1. Cognitive development

The term cognition means the ability to use your conscious and subconscious parts of the brain to think, reason, remember and make decisions. Spending positive time with your children improves their Problem solving and decision-making skills.

Coast Academy student Huda Mohammed Amin gets 7 A*s in 0 level exams.

We are proud to announce the name of our top student Huda Mohamed Amin who achieved outstanding grades in her O level exams. Huda got all A*s when she sat for her exams in October/November. It is extremely rewarding to see these results, it is also important to recognize the commitment and dedication of the Coast Academy staff to our students because without them these results would not be possible.

What the 8’s and 9’s mean:

Her results were inspiring for other students who were wowed by Huda. We took the time to celebrate Huda’s success.  She gave a word of encouragement to students and teachers by sharing her recipe for success and urged students to work hard, reduce playtime and learn to sacrifice for a short time that will later pay off during exams. Additionally, she thanked her teachers, parents and students for supporting her before and after her exams.

The Coast Academy recently celebrated its 51st anniversary and it was fantastic.

Students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders gathered together on the 26th of February 2022 to celebrate the many years in the education industry. The program was well implemented by teachers and students who showcased their knowledge in various subjects and colourfully displayed their talents to parents and alumni. From junior school to senior school the theme was “save the planet” all students excitedly presented projects that showed different ways we could save the planet. Alumni’s praised the teachers from Coast Academy that contributed to their success, the board of directors were thanked for their support and the longest-serving staff were appreciated for their commitment to the school’s success.

Other people who attended included the board of directors, Mr Mumo Mwendwa, Mr Vonza Mwendwa, Mr Nzambu Mwendwa and Mr Mwatu.

Additionally, two representatives from the Academic Services Limited Joshua Wandaya and Vanessa Waithera were present at the event and the head of sister school St Austin’s Academy Mr Simba Song’e was also there.

Planning graduation during the COVID season was not easy but we’re glad that we managed to make it work.

2020 was not an easy year for our parents, students and faculty, we had to transition to online classes and we all had to adjust since the pandemic. However, as we slowly tried to return to normalcy there was a lot of concern and fear and we all wondered when we could be a school again and when we would continue with our activities as planned.

As you all know our graduation last year was online but this year we were fortunate enough to have physical graduation in Coast Academy, it reminded us to not take the times we have together for granted.
